Photography & Filmmaking

With her degree in Marine and Natural History Photography, Jasmine has built a strong reputation as an award-winning underwater photographer and filmmaker. Her photography and videography skills encompass underwater shooting, scripting, sound design, shoot planning, and editing. Jasmine brings a unique blend of creativity and technical expertise to her projects, making complex scientific and conservation topics engaging and digestible for a wide audience.

 

Her photographs and films have been featured in major outlets such as National Geographic, BBC Wildlife, DIVE Magazine, and Forbes. Additionally, Jasmine has contributed to conservation-themed publications and has been involved in producing scientific documentaries, including her work on manta ray conservation in the Maldives.

Public Speaking, Events, & Panels

Jasmine is a sought-after speaker and has participated in numerous conservation events and panel discussions. In 2024, she co-organised and spoke at the Natural History Museum’s World Manta Day celebration, where she shared insights from her conservation work with manta rays. She has also spoken at the Women in Ocean Science World Oceans Day event and led a Conservation Storytelling Workshop with Ocean Culture Life in 2024.

As a guest lecturer, Jasmine has shared her knowledge of marine and natural history photography with students at Falmouth University, where she regularly presents her work and discusses the impact of conservation storytelling.

Conservation Writing & Publications

In addition to her photography and film work, Jasmine is a published conservation writer. She has written extensively about marine life, conservation issues, and solutions for protecting ocean biodiversity. Her articles and photography have been featured in some of the world’s leading nature and science publications, including National Geographic and BBC Wildlife.

Jasmine is also the author of No More Fish, a thought-provoking book that addresses the global crisis of overfishing and offers insights into potential remedies. She contributed to the book Ocean Speaks, which features her work on manta ray conservation in Makunudhoo and has had several of her photographs showcased in international magazines and scientific publications.

Scuba Diving, Freediving, & Expeditions

Jasmine is an accomplished PADI-certified scuba instructor with over 1,500 logged dives and holds a Molchanov’s W2 freediving certification with a personal best depth of 45 metres and a breath-hold record exceeding four minutes. She is highly skilled in filming underwater in both scuba and freediving conditions, capturing stunning footage in some of the most challenging and remote marine environments.

 

Her diving experience has taken her across the globe, with extensive work in the UK, Maldives, Indonesia, Philippines, Ecuador, Egypt, Vietnam, Madeira, and Mexico. Jasmine has worked as a marine biologist on a liveaboard dive vessel in the Maldives, leading expeditions that ran for six weeks at sea. As a certified expedition leader and manta expert with Manta Expeditions, she regularly leads manta-focused trips, sharing her knowledge and passion for these iconic creatures with divers and marine enthusiasts.

Awards & Achievements

Jasmine’s dedication to ocean conservation and her expertise in visual storytelling have earned her recognition within the global conservation community. She was a finalist in the Ocean Photographer of the Year Awards (Conservation Impact Category) in 2024, and her films have been shortlisted at prestigious events such as the Big Syn International Film Festival and the Smiley Charity Film Awards.

Her work has been praised for its ability to inspire change by communicating the urgent need to protect the ocean’s most vulnerable species. Jasmine continues to push the boundaries of environmental storytelling, using her creative talents to advocate for a more sustainable future for marine life.

Equipment & Technical Expertise

Jasmine works with a Sony A7RV in Nauticam housing, equipped with a 16-35mm lens, fisheye lens, and a 270mm dome. She uses YS-D3 strobes, Light and Motion Video Pro 15K lights, and a DJI Air2S Drone for aerial shots.

 

In addition to her photography and filmmaking equipment, she is proficient with audio recording, camera sliders, remote cameras, and other technical gear essential for producing high-quality visual and audio content in challenging environments.

Research & Conservation Work

Throughout her career, Jasmine has been deeply involved in marine research and conservation initiatives. As the Project Manager for the Maldives Manta Conservation Programme, she coordinated manta ray research efforts, including aerial drone surveys, photo-identification, and innovative technologies like stereo-video photogrammetry and ultrasound scans. These efforts have helped improve our understanding of manta ray populations and their ecological importance.

During her time as a Science Officer with Coral Cay Conservation in the Philippines, Jasmine led coral reef monitoring programs, trained volunteers, and contributed to the creation of marine protected areas (MPAs) to safeguard critical habitats. Her work has been pivotal in supporting sustainable marine management practices and advocating for the protection of ocean ecosystems.

Media & Communications Strategy

In her role as Media and Communications Manager at the Manta Trust, Jasmine plays a critical role in shaping the organisation’s media strategy. She oversees the Manta Trust’s social media platforms, newsletters, and website, ensuring the organisation’s message reaches a global audience. Jasmine creates digital graphics, produces films, and manages the production of scientific infographics, making her an essential part of the team’s outreach efforts.

 

Her experience as a self-taught graphic designer allows her to produce visually compelling content that complements her photography and film work. Jasmine specialises in creating infographics for scientific publications, helping translate complex research into visually engaging formats that can be easily understood by the public.
